It’s the idea that makes the difference: The closed-cell PU foam core of the SAERfoam® product range is reinforced with glass fibre bridges of different densities at angles of 45 and/or 90 degrees over its entire thickness, giving it significantly higher performance. In comparison with PVC and PET cores of the same specification, a weight saving up to 30 percent can be achieved using SAERfoam®. No wonder then, that SAERfoam® is primarily used in applications where weight plays a decisive role. For instance in the ship building industry for constructing superstructures, hulls and decks; in the wind energy industry for making shear webs, shells and nacelles and in the automotive industry for fabricating floor and side panels. Even bridges and other building units are constructed using SAERfoam® in some areas. Because SAERfoam® not only delivers high performance, but is also fast and easy to process, its popularity is also increasing the sanitary ware sector where is used for manufacturing bathtubs, shower units and doors on the basis of SAERfoam®.
The time factor plays a key role in part manufacture. SAERfoam® is therefore designed for infusion processes (vacuum infusion, RTM, low-pressure compression), which saves time and directly reduces costs. SAERfoam® sandwich structures can be optimised to meet customer requirements. For example, its compressive strength, isotropic properties, directional bending and shear load performance, bending load capabilities in multiple directions and thrust load capacity can all be modified. This is achieved by aligning the glass fibre bridges differently and using different outer layers for the sandwich structures.
How SAERfoam® is made and how sensationally easy it is to process can be seen in the SAERfoam® product video that can be viewed at www.youtube.com/SAERTEXTV and www.saertex.com.
